WEAK

weak.jpg

Do you ever just feel like throwing in the towel?

Like you are so over, so done with whatever your current battle is that you just want to concede, be the loser and just walk away?

Me too.

Life can be very difficult.

It is full of people and relationships and challenges that can really take it out of you.

And there are days when I feel powerful and winning at life.

And then there are days like today.

When I feel like I am tired, I am weak and I cannot face one more hurt, heartache, disappointment or fear.

When the temptation to just give it up, throw in the towel and hide in my room overtakes me.

When I feel like I am too tired to pray.

When I feel like I am too weak to fight.

When I feel like I am too immature to handle.

When I feel like I can’t take one more step in faith.

It is in these moments that my instinct is to pull back from God. Hide from people.

But I know one thing for sure.

It is Jesus who helps me get through these moments.

So I pick up my bible and I start reading.

And the bible can feel heavy and hard to open in these times, I know.

But I promise it can help.

Here are a few of my favorite verses for these hard days:

1 Peter 1:2-8

2 You are not forgotten, for you have been chosen and destined by Father God. The Holy Spirit has set you apart to be God’s holy ones, obedient followers of Jesus Christ who have been gloriously sprinkled with his blood. May God’s delightful grace and peace cascade over you many times over!

3 Celebrate with praises the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has shown us his extravagant mercy. For his fountain of mercy has given us a new life—we are reborn to experience a living, energetic hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. 4 We are reborn into a perfect inheritance that can never perish, never be defiled, and never diminish. It is promised and preserved forever in the heavenly realm for you!

5 Through our faith, the mighty power of God constantly guards us until our full salvation is ready to be revealed in the last time. 6 May the thought of this cause you to jump for joy, even though lately you’ve had to put up with the grief of many trials. 7 But these only reveal the sterling core of your faith, which is far more valuable than gold that perishes, for even gold is refined by fire. Your authentic faith will result in even more praise, glory, and honor when Jesus the Anointed One is revealed.

8 You love him passionately although you did not see him, but through believing in him you are saturated with an ecstatic joy, indescribably sublime and immersed in glory. 9 For you are reaping the harvest of your faith—the full salvation promised you—your souls’ victory!

James 1:2-4

2 My fellow believers, when it seems as though you are facing nothing but difficulties see it as an invaluable opportunity to experience the greatest joy that you can! 3 For you know that when your faith is tested it stirs up power within you to endure all things. 4 And then as your endurance grows even stronger it will release perfection into every part of your being until there is nothing missing and nothing lacking.

Isaiah 55:8-13

Eternal One: 8 My intentions are not always yours,
and I do not go about things as you do.
9     My thoughts and My ways are above and beyond you,
just as heaven is far from your reach here on earth.
10     For as rain and snow can’t go back once they’ve fallen,
        but soak into the ground
And nourish the plants that grow,
providing seed to the farmer and bread for the hungry,
11     So it is when I declare something.
My word will go out and not return to Me empty,
    But it will do what I wanted;
it will accomplish what I determined.
12     For you will go out in joy, be led home in peace.
        And as you go the land itself will break out in cheers;
The mountains and the hills will erupt in song,
and the trees of the field will clap their hands.
13     Prickly thorns and nasty briers will give way
to luxurious shade trees, sweet and good.
And they’ll remind you of the Eternal One
and how God can be trusted absolutely and forever.

Romans 5: 3-4

3 But that’s not all! Even in times of trouble we have a joyful confidence, knowing that our pressures will develop in us patient endurance. 4 And patient endurance will refine our character, and proven character leads us back to hope. 5 And this hope is not a disappointing fantasy, because we can now experience the endless love of God cascading into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who lives in us!

Isaiah 26:3

You will keep in perfect peace
    all who trust in you,
all whose thoughts are fixed on you!

Even now, just reading through these, I feel strength returning to me.

Let me encourage you today, God’s word IS THAT powerful.

It is living and active.

It isn’t just words on a page. It has the ability to cut through the pain and hit us right in the heart with truth.

It can help us remember the amazing promises and love and grace and peace given to us by our Heavenly Father.

There is more happening than just our current weakness.

And in fact, our weakness is the perfect place for God to be shown mighty and strong in our lives.

2 Corinthians 12:9

9 But he answered me, “My grace is always more than enough for you,[aand my power finds its full expression through your weakness.” So I will celebrate my weaknesses, for when I’m weak I sense more deeply the mighty power of Christ living in me.

So this weakness, these days of feeling defeated, could just be evidence that God is working mightily within me.

refining me into something more like him. And that kind of makes it worth it.
